SYDNEY.

■■■■;■■■ July 31. The Postmaster-General moved a resolution approving of the acceptance of the contract by the Pacific Mail Co., with Elder and Hacgregor as sureties, for the 'Frisco Mail service. The resolution was agreed to by 28 to 2. The Easby left Sydney on 20th inst. for Wellington, and had on board a cargo of coal, 2581 bag's of sugar, 446 case 3of fruit, 112 bags maize and sundries ; but, in addition she carried three tiers of iron bark logs on the fore deck ; also 12 passengers. When she cleared Sydney Heads the barometer was 2960. As the vessel proceeded eastward.the wind and sea rose to such an extent that the ship took in large quantities of water, washing away all the fruit stowed on the fore-hatch; starting the engine room hatch, completetely smashing up the covering and steering fear. In fact the ship was like a wreck at alf tide, the waves making clean breaches over her, and everything inoveable on deck being swept away. At noon the ship hove to with her head to the south?, ward, but as .the sea still increased Captain Kennedy deemed it prudent to bear up for Sydney again. He had to use much caution to get her into port by heading the vessel to sea in the height of the squalls. This was the second time the Easby returned to port. j
