QUEEN OF THE MAY.

The Queen of the May Company will have a retorting at the Herald battery to-day, as there is to be a temporary stoppage of the battery, owing to, x one of the stamper boxes being ; broken, and crushing with twenty head will,, in • the interim, take place atjthe Una battery. A return of about 60 ounces gold is expected from the present retorting, and-a very good one it must be admitted, when, we consider that there have been only four days' crushing witk-a force of 15 head of stamps. There is nothing new from the mine, operations being confined- for the present to the main level. It is understood, however, that negociations are pending for opening, up a new level from the City of London shaft.
