Ohinemuri.

(FEOJI A COKItESPGNDENT.)

Paeboa, Friday.

You may expect to have news from Fern Flat to-morrow. A complete rush has taken place in that direction, and there is much confident talk of the gold that may, can, and will be found in that direction ere long, and the promising prospects already, obtained.

_ The road party have started on a new piece of roadway, by which a shorter route from the Paeroa to Mackaytown is to be secured, and a number of men are engaged ditching, so that passengers on foot will be able to perform the distance with less of mud and more of comfort than heretofore, at the same time tbat the road will be drairied of the w-iter falling on its surface from the heavy rama prevalent during the winter.

King Frost has paid us a flying visit. Paeroa this morning looked like a field of snow, and ice has been seen half an inch thick. In .fact the "nipping air" has been so very severe as to have stopped the watch of one individual, although (the watch, not the gentleman,) is warranted io go—anywhere. Despite the croaking of some of those melancholy human ravens, much confidence is yet felt in Ohinemuri, although little can be expected during the present winter. Timber is still being carted to Mackaytown, and the. place in a small way is becoming more settled! most of those of the funky order having departed. Lipsey has built himself a new tenement, and w.ill. shift into it on Saturday next. ! The price cf meat is felt to be a great hardship upon diggers, having to pay B<l or 9d per pound. / . '.
