THAMES CHAMPION BELT.
' The first competition for the Thames Champion Belt took place on Saturday at ;the Kauaeranga range, and resulted in favor of Captain Murray,' Thames Scottish.' Seaman Armstrong, of the Naval*, tied for first place, but was beaten nt the longest range. ' The firing on the whole was good, when it"is taken into consideration that the weather was anything but favorable.
Ihe excitement in the afternoon com* menced at 600 yards. The highest com* petitora being Armstrong 34, Murray 32, McL«od 32, Fenton 31, Grundy 30, Potts 28, Paul 27, Lawlor 26. After three rounds had been fired Murray and Armstrong were leading—43 each; the -others Lad tailed off—Grundy 35, .McLeod 06* Paul 34, Lajrior.^a. Pbti»: •83/ S;lce* -33, Fenton 3JF r'* The:%ex£ round Murray an 3' Armsmkig both made centres, and -their acoret atood at 46; Grundy 39, Paul 37, fiotte 36, Lawlor I 35 —one more round to Murrayand Armstrong again made centres, and tied -with 49. Grundy Vand Paul both made :buH's-eyes, and secured third and fourth places; Sergeant Campbell, of the Thames Scottish, fired in the morning and took fifth.prize, with-a score of 40 points.
