■..';:■■■ ' " Monday. Sir Donald McLean is seeking to purchase a block of land, from Eenata Kawepo, near the seventyrinile bush. The Rangitane have rights over the block. Heuheu Tapo and Tareha of Napier received £500 yesterday from Messrs Mitchell and Locke as a portion of the purchase money of the disputed block of land in the Wairoa district. It has been claimed by other natives resident here. A protest has been verbally lodged against the payment by a counter-claim-ant, who purposes, appealing to the Supreme Court. - The Herald attacks Mr Sheehan, being a Catholic, and,suggests that he comes here to lead the Catholic party instead of Mr Lee. It'considers that Mr Reader Wood has amalgamated the offices to sate the province £200 a year. The Herald publishes an anathema against Mr Brett and the Napier Telegraph re Sir George Grey's speech, the Telegraph having quoted the telegrams as "our own.' 1
