The late fall of rain has enabled the manager of the Old Whau Company to start the battery to work, and tlius get quit of some of the quartz accumulated in the home paddock, and'which, for some time, has been a kind of insurmountable obstacle to the "progress of operations in; the mine. The manager will now be in a position to commence stop:ng on the reef, of which " great expectations " arc entertained. . '
