RUSH TO WAIOMO.

Pegging Out.

A small rush has taken place to a point about one mile past Waiomo, on the Tapu side. It appears that some men had prospected there, and having come upon what they conceived to be a payable patch, returned to Shortland, and obtained others to go in with them. It is understood that Mr James Kobinson is a prominent shareholder in the ground. The* Prospect. The ground is situated on the face of a high spur, and a part of this fell away, it is supposed by reason of cattle loosening the ground—disclosing a face in which there was a conglomeration of quartz and mullock. In the piece that fell down, when broken up there were discovered a few quartz specimens ; but no gold was seen in the face of the hill, though a fair prospect was obtained by panning. The news was conveyed to Grahamstown yesterday. Hearing of it, Messrs Hennelly and White at once proceeded to Waiomo, prepared to peg out should they see anything which would induce them to do so. Apparently they did see enough to induce. They pegged out, any-way, close to "The Prospectors," as it is called, 10 acres each. Ou their way back to town they met a few persons proceeding to the rush to pßg out.

It has been well known for. some tinrii that the color of gold was to be obtained in the Waiomo district; whether there is anything to call for a rush in this late discovery remains to be seen. The prospectors appear very confident of success, however. I '
