THE MEETING AT TAIRUA.
(To the Editor of th* Evening Star.)
Sib,—Having seen the report of the meeting at the Tairua on Saturday last in the columns of the Advertiser of this date, I wish to state'that it is a gross misrepresentation of the whole of the proceedings, and an attempt to cast a slur upon Mr Rowley and the miners as- , semblsd. Not a single word was said ' respecting the leases applied for, but Mr Rowley spoke of the number of leases locked up in the Hauraka District; and, instead of him being laughed at, it was quite otherwise, for he was cheered, and a vote of thanks returned to him for getting up the meeting. And it is evident to me that the person that sent the report to the Thames Advertiser mmst have a strong interest in the present locked-up state of the Thames Goldfield. These few facts you will oblige me sincerely by inserting, as a strict lever ■ of truth, Mathsw Callan, • •«, . . Miner.
