Trial Griishings.

Two parcels of stono brought down by Mr C. F. Mitchell wisre tested at Mr C. F. Quint's Willoughby-street Reduction Works to-day. The samples of stone were from the Dan Leahy claim, Waitekauri, in which have been opened gome large reefs. The first lot was 30 lb» of stone from a large reef, and the result obtained after careful treatment was 20 grains gold, which indicates an arerage of 3 ounceii 2 dwtg and odd grains to the ton. Another small lot of 31bs. was from a leader in, the clainvand this gare 3 grains of jjold, or at the rate of 4 ounces 13 dwtsi 8 grains per ton. Although these testsjof small quantities of stone cannot be relied, upon entirely, they maybe taken as fair indications of the quality of the stone, due allowance being made for the different; modes of treatment of large and small quantities. The Ohinemuri Prospectors have sent down three tons of stone from their claim to be crushed, and the operation was commenced at the Tramway Battery this morning. One lot comprises two tons from a reef in the claim, and the other lot one ton. Both samples are described as hard, hungry lookuig stone, but no idea can be formed of the quality. It may be stated that gold has bean seen in the stone, and the assay, reported from Auckland is undoubtedly encouraging. These crwhings will not bo completed before Saturday night, as they are going through the single stamper of the Tramway Battery. . -
