OHINEMURI.

(FBOM A CpBBBSPONDBNT.) : . # Mackaytown, April 2nd. Nothing to report of any consequence. Most of the news of new finds and rich reefs is got from a certain Thames paper. That yarn about 57 ounces of gold from 22 pounds of stuff is not credited. We might take a portion of it, but tbe whole community couldn't swallow the iot. The reported lucky finder is being anxiously enquired for. Work is progressing well in some of the claims, on t]ie roads, and in the direction of house building.. .Many of the miners are preparing to go into winter quarters, having built substantial huts adjacent to their claims. There was a report in to-day that 19 ounces of alluvial gold had been washed out of one of the creeks, but like the other rumours nobody would father it. I Fred Hatch and party have taken out to

their claim sufficient boards to make four sluice boxes and false bottoms ;' they have also brought out double-ended picks and long-handle shovels, and by this time they are fairly at work; and from the appearance of the prospects I saw I think it will pay them well. ; This claim I speak of is adjoining Clarkson's and Cobley's i rT-n h ;i& ey Mvea splendid drive into the hill to intersect a leader which crops out on the surface and forms a bar across tne river.. There have been specimens of not a very rich character picked up on the surface, and I also heard they have got a iair prospect washing with the dish, and are about sinking a shaft on the outcrop or reef to try it. Theyare sfeguine they will get something to pay them. ; A large number of swagmen arrived here this last day or two, the principal part of them from Victoria and New South Wales. Theyv^ave all the one opinion—and that is, fchat they expected to hear of more gold on the opening of this place than what, has been found. The Government Buildings will shortly be completed, as Farrell and Co. have men on at every available? part:-of ; the buildings, to shove the work through in the quickest possible time.
