THE CALEDONIAN.

Operations in this . mine »re being actively pushed ahead by Captain Richards, the manager. From the 100----feet level a cross-cut was sometimes ago put in from the hanging trail, leaderinto the foot wall, and a small Vein was discovered; since then driving has been pushed ahead and stopes opened out, and about 35 tons of stuff taken out. This has been crushed, and retorting takes place to-day, but the result will be t«o late for this day's issue of the Star. It is expected that 2 ozs. to the ton will be obtained, in which case it will pay Terr well. 1 derations are being carried forward in the old workings, and a spec or two of gold is occasionally discernible, but nothing further. The manager is also driving at the bottom lerel north on the No. 3 reef, which is larger than it has been for some time, and antimony- is seen in the stone —the first of this mineral that it has been observed to carry ; there is, hevrever, no other indication that, calls for much expectation with respect to this reef. The shaft is down 105 feet below the 360-feet lerel. Sinking at this depth has been discontinued, owing to the water; but the shaft will, it is expected, be drained when communication is opened with the T7.P.A. by the main drive being put in by the Tookey and Albion Companies. The Caledonian shaft has, now to gc down 15 feet further, when it will have reached the Pumping Association 400 feet level, and operations in connection with the latter will be commenced.
