O, Another telegram re the Cospatrick says the fire broke out at midnight on November 17th, and within half an hour •enveloped the vessel: nearly the:; entire length. The scene was one of the" wildest confusion. But two boats succeeded in getting away : each contained thirfy pert sons. These remained alongside the shm •until the 19lh November,-when the Hull was completely burned and the vessel sunk. The two boats then started for land and kept, together {for tw3. days* when a gale separated them, and one of them has not since been heard of. The other was fallen in with by the British, ship Sceptre 1, and at that time contained five persons, two of whom'died before the Sceptre reached St? Helena. The steamship Mongol, which in the early part of last year was engaged in the Francisco Mail Service, has been: totally wrecked and all her crew lost on one of the numerous reefs in;the China Seas. She was bound from China to London, at the time of the frightful accidentj with a full cargo of teas. r . v Wellington, This day. Cheistchubch, Saturday. Hostilities-between the City. Council and the cabmen have assumed an active phase. The Council^ puriJuant to! a resolution passed last meeting, blocked up the cab stands on Friday '.morning*/ The police received orders not to allow cabs to stand about thoroughfares, but keep; them moving. In the afternoon the cabmen consulted their legal adviser. /Then ■ proceeded'to the cabstand in a boidy amd removed the obstructions. TJie 'Mayor gave one of the cabmen into custody. The case will probably be tried to-day. J The cabmen, occupied the stands for the rest of the day, but during last night the Corporation employees' erecied v strong pqsj;^.n4»phain, fence and dug a ditcji around the cabstand. j The cabmen have not attempted to interfere with this work yet, and, not being permitted to stand anywhere, are now parading the streets in quest of lares.
