The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 1875.

To-mobeow will be the 35ih anniversary of the Colony, and as such will bo observed as a holiday in the Province of Auckland, although in other Provinces the anniversary of the Colony is generally disregarded and the birthdays of the Provinces kept instead. Several steamers vfill make excursions to Ohinemuri. ,tn Auckland the principal attraction -vtrill be the Regatta, at which several Thames crews will assist, and in nil probability will bring away some of the prizes. The proposal to: entertain the representatives on board the Luna in an excursion to Auckland has been abandoned. The representatives have come hero for good steady work, and until that is completed they appear disinclined to give themselves up to amusement. "When the Championship is decided our visitors may poßsibly " let out" a bit. At the present time there is every probability of the Tolunteera spending a quiet day in their tents: it is raining, with every indication of jetting worse before clearing up.

Woßr has been resumed in the Crown Princess (late Grown Prince) mine under the management of Mr J. B. Beeche.

Two case§ were heard in the Resident Magistrate's' Court to«day, brought by the Officer tinder the*;Medlth Act. The circuxn•tances of the cases were very similar in many respects. They were complaints for permibting nuisances. In both cases the nuisances complained of were dirty closets; neither defendant appeared, but their wires did. The Bench, to keep up the similarity, inflictsd a fine of 10s and costs in each case.

Wb have received a New Zealand Gtazetto of date January 21. It in notified that the western side of the Naval Training School established at Kohimarama is set apart as a school gaol for the purposes of the ]>7av*l Training School Act. A register of medical praotitioaers for 1874 is published, and several statistical tables.

In Mr Logan's letter of " contradiction " to Hoera Te Miniha's statement regarding Ohinemuri, a mistake occurred, the insertion of a word having altered the meaning of the writer. "In reference to his statement —that we agreed to prospect together, it is not correct," should read "In reference to his statement—that we agreed to prospect together is correct."

A case of unwarrantable trespass has been brought to our notice, the offenders being such as deserve severe punishment. It seems that some unwanly ruffians are in the habit of daily walking through the grounds of a lady residing at Parawai, and, gratify their thievish propensities by robbing the trees of peaches, and breaking' down the branches. The only apparent reason for thia trespass is that it affords a shorter road. It may be as well to offer a slight intimation to these robbers that steps will be taken effectually to check their depredations j so that they may find themselves introduced officially to our very energetic Inspector of Police, unless they are content to be honest.
