RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAT. ( Before W.^Fbaseb, Esq., 8.M.) ON SUSPICION OP LUNACY. Edmund Burns was charged with beinff of unsound mind. This man was brought up some days ago and remanded for medical examination. Mr. Bullen stated that the Gaol Surgeon had been instructed to see Burns, 5 but that after a good night's rest, the man had awakened perfectly conscious of his position, and why he had been brought there. Mr. Bullen thought it advisable to discharge him; and His Worship told him he could go. BEEACH OF THE FBIENDLY SOCIETIES' ACT. James Korton was brought up on remand charged with that 'ie, being an officer of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society, and having in his possession belonging to the said Society certain moneys, did withhold the same. This case has been twice remanded* on the first occasion there having been some informality in the information. Defendant was called, but made no appearance . ■ Mr Sullen presumed the defendant did not appear by the advice of the solicitors engaged. Ho (Mr Bullen) had received a note to apply for an adjournment. Adjournment was granted till Thursday next. CONNUBIAL DIFFERENCES. William Davis was charged with using threatening and abusive language towards one Bridget Davis. Defendant pleaded guilty. He wai eviden ly under the influence of liquor, and His Worship, perceiving this, ordered him to the watchhouse, and remanded the case till he was fit tc appear. .EXTENSION OF LICENSE. Charles Curtis made an application for the extension of the license held bj him for tho Pacific Hoi el to Tararu Gardens, on Monday the 30th, being St. Andrew'i Day. The application was granted subject to the usual conditions imposed by the police. The Court adjourned.
