THE SUPERINTENDENT'S VISIT.
His Honor the Superindent, accompanied by Drs. Hooper and Lee, visited the Hospital to-day, and minutely inspected the internal arrangements. Nothing was done in the investigation to-day.
The Provincial Secretary visited the Shortland Cemetery today, with a view to ascertain whether it would be advisable to spend money on improving the road and increasing the area of the present cemetery, or to obtain a more accessible piece of land and open a new cemetery. From what we could learn there is every probability of the Government acquiring a piece of land more easily got at, instead of spending money on the road to the old cemetery. ■■".'. Messrs Bowe, Brodie and Porter waited upon His Honor the Superintendent and Provincial Secretary with respect to the construction of the lower portion of the Waiotahi Road, and presented a petition signed by the residents and mine managers of the districts, setting forth the necessity which exists lor the road. His Honor received the matter favorably, and instructed Mr. McLaren the District Engineer to survey the ground and prepare an estimate of the amount required to construct the road. The same gentlemen also questioned His Honor regarding the Provincial grants to Highway Boards, the reply being that he would let them know the probable amount next Monday.
