Tra fortnightly meeting of the Thames Bw»ugk Council will be held thi* eveajng.

The tidas during the.past few days have been very high, and the consequent inconvenienco to the beach pedestrians has been conuiderable. The encroaches mado by the sea all along the foreshore are go great aa to appear almost inoredible to theae who are not already aware of the fact. At .the Qrahamstown Bide of the Karalca Creek the footway is sometimes barely passable, while on the Shortland aide the tide works its way into the gardens, and in one instance some stones have had to be placed alongside the fence to enable people to pass with dry feet. It was bad enough before but it is worse when persons are unable to stir outside their houses without wading through the tide. It is to be hoped the matter will receive early attention, and that further on the Provincial Government will see their way to the formation of a road and tramway from the present railway terminus at Grahamstown to the Shortland Wharf, a work which would prove of incalcuable benefit to the district, as forming a more complete chain of communication between the different townships. Thebb was no police business to record frem the' [Resident Magistrate's Court this morning. To-morrow the Court will be occupied with civil business, hu% as tho Council and companies have been entering into private regpeiation with reference to the assessment, tho appeal ca-es will not be brought on, and this will lighten the Hat consideraby. , We are requested to state that there was a misunderstanding about the hour at which His Honor the Superintendent arranged to meet the Borough Council yesterday, which accounts for the fact of the Mayor and others being m attendance half-an-hour before the Superintendent arrived. We are in receipt of Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette of Thursday, November 12th, the contents of which is principally composed of a schedule of awards made by Compensation Court and Crown Agent jto loyal natives out of confiscated block in the Bay of Plenty, and awards to surrendered rebels.
