THE MAYOE'S SALARY.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sik,—Your contemporary this morning seems sore on the action taken last night by the Council in voting our, esteemed Mayor a salary. Ido not think that the writer of a letter also appearing this morning,J*nd signed " Young Thames," could have been a long resident here, or he would have known by experience that our worthy Mayor, has from the first expended time and money which he could ill afford for the benefit of the field, in fact there is universal concurrence (except by a small clique) in the course adopted by the Council last night. The letter of " Young Thames " savors well of home composition, and the well known antipathy of the Southern scrawler of your contemporary, shows well the animus that produced both letter and article. . I wish the writer of both letter and article, had a little of the respect our worthy Mayor is held in by the citizens, as shown by the position he, was placed at the last Municipal election without solicitation. ! / TfIUTH. ,
