THE BIRD IN HAND.
A most important find of gold ore took place last night and this morning in this company's mine. In driving towards the sea some fine specimens came to hand— jthe richest that have been found in the mine. The gold is heavy, and appears to ibe of a higher value than a preat deal of !the Thames golJ. The ore was taken ;from the reef in the face of the drive out !of two leaders slightly bearing towards ;the foot-wall of the reef. The with of the whole lode is about 18 inches, and the gold seems to run downwards, the best sign for a mine possible. Mere gold than that in the stone to hand is, visible Jn the bottom of the drive. The reef running , into the hill.has opened out, again, and ip now a body of stone'two feet thick. The | manager reports the amalgam, at the :.battery as promising for a good return at ! the next crushiqg, and quite up to the i last. "
