MACKENZIE v. THIRD GRADE. Yesteiklay afternoon a match was pkayed on Anzac Reserve, between a team from Mackenzie Country, and an eleven from local third grade players. The visitors won the toss and hatted, but dould compile only 53 against the good bowling of Rodgers and King, who took d for 17, and 4 for t2 respectively. llawstorn (24) batted well, and wax the only one to reach doable figures South Canterbury made 132 (Rodgers 45, Harding 28. LAIPROVING OTAGO STANDARD. Dy Tolecra.oli —Prana Association. .DUNEDIN, March 3. A public meeting was held last night tor tne purpose of inaugurating a movement tor improving _ the local cricket grounds, and securing guarantees for the payment of a coach. Between 70 and 80 attended, including many prominent citizens. The urgent necessity for effecting an improvement in the grounds and securing proper coaching for the youngei players wvas stressed. It was stated that about £6O bad already been guaranteed towards the Coach Fund, and a strong committee was set uj> to secure additional guarantees, the idea being to raise at least £3OO a year for three years. It was also decided to ask the representatives of sports bodies to report ro the City Council on the question of sports grounds generally. The Mayor expressed sympathy with the movement, and said the City Council would do all it could to asyist.
