Gasoline Tanks Ignite. TOLL OF TWENTY-THREE LIVES. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Reuter’s Tolesrams. (Received April 12, 7.30 p.m.) VANCOUVER, April 11. A telegram from Port Arthur (Texas) states that a terrific explosion aboard the oil tank steamer Gulf of Venezuela, in harbour on Sunday, took a toll of twenty-three lives, and injured more than a score, and lor a time threatened other shipping. Seven members of the ship’s crew of .thirty-live arc missing, hut it is believed somo are among tho dead. ■ A number of dock workers are also missing. VESSEL BLOWN FROM WHARF. ' The explosion on the Gulf of Venezuela was the result of a .gasolene explosion which occurred during tho early morning, while the bulk of the crew were asleep. Tho steamer, which carried 100,000 gallons of gasolene, was -blown from .!e wharf in a sheet of flame. Ignition of leakage from the tanks caused the disaster.
