BRITAIN’S COAL CRISIS

DELEGATE CONFERENCE MEETS. \ a ( t By Cable—Press Association—Coyyrljjht. ■ Australian and N.Z. Cable Assoclu.M.- 1 j LONDON, April 9. I The national delegate conference of i miners privately discussed m London, ' to-day, the proposals of the coalowners, i arising lrom the coal report. i The Executive recommended the rejection of file proposals, and a lirm i stand against district agreements, or reductions of wages, and the extension of hours. It also recommended a demand lor a national wages agreement and a national minimum percentage. The Conference did not reach a dennitc decision, and another deegate conference is being called to arrive ac a final decision. The Executive succeeded in carrying a moderate policy, and avoided for tile moment a decision which would have the effect of rejecting the owners’ proposals outright, and creating a deadlock. It is possible the miners’ leaders will confer with the Government before meeting the owners. The Miners’ Executive, acting on th 0 advice of the Industrial Committee of the Trades Union Congress, that negotiations should be continued in order that the points of difference between the parties may be reduced to th e smal.est dimensions, invited the owners to', meet them immediately to continue negotiations.
