PRESENTATION TO MR- AND MRS J. A. JOHNSON. 'There was a very large gathering of residents in the Alii ford llall on Friday evening, the purpose being to bid farewell to Mr ami Mrs J. A. Johnson, who are leaving for the North Island. Mr and Airs-Johnson have been in tho Temuka district for many years, and have always interested themselves in any progressive movement. During their residence in Alilford, Air Johnson has been for a number of years, a director of the Alilford Co-operative Dairy Company, a member of tlic Public : Hall Committee, and the School Committee, and was prominent in other matters appertaining to the welfare of the district. Tiie function took tlic form of a. social and dance, ami Mr. R. L.vall occupied the chair. A number of well chosen items were given by several Timaru and local entertainers, after which the chairman called upon Air R. -Macaulay to make the preser.ud.iou. In doing so Air Alacaulay said they were all sorry to lose two residents who commanded the esteem of all, and oxpres- ; .sed, on behalf of all present, best ; wishes for their future, prosperity, happiness and usefulness in their new home. He then handed to Air Johnson a purse of sovereigns, and to Airs Johnson, ,u handsome wristlet watch. 1 A number of other .-e.sident.s also ex- ' pressed regret at the departure of Air ; and Airs Johnson, and wished them 1 every success in their new home. Air Johnson, who was given a flattering reception, made a suitable reply. . PERSONAL. Air R. Alalcohn, headmaster of tlic'Jemiika District High School, visited Palmerston North last week, . and has decided not to accept the headmastership of Terrace End School. Ho will, therelorc, remain in Teinuka, and his decision will bo the cause of much satisfaction in the district. Messrs C. AV. Taylor, H. Washington, C. Palmer, H. Stratford and-B. Cameron motored to Dunedin on Saturday.
