A statement regarding the owners’ attitude in Connection with the threat of the Federated Engine Drivers’ and Firemen’s Association to strike, in view of the alleged reduction, of wages under the recent award, of the coal tribunal, says no such reduction is being made, and continues: “On the contrary material advances and concessions in conditions and L shorter hours from 46 to 43 have been, awarded.“ “REGULATION” STRIKE. Beginning with the first cars to-day, a regulation strike will b e put into fffect on practically the -whole ol tne Melbourne tramway system. The dispute has arisen over the payment for the ten minutes taken to walk from the terminus to the depot and hack at lunch time.
It is expected that by the end of the day ears will bo about three hours late.
