A NEW THEORY OF TOOTH PROTECTION. From old time tooth powders to paste cleansers was an important advance in methods of caring for the teeth. More especially since the use of paste as a dentifrice made possible the introduction, of other cleansing agents, such as antiseptics to lessen the risk of mouth infection, and acids to aid the removal of film which forms on teeth. The first pastes, however, were not acid. They were alkaline, containing a soapy substance which certainly softens the action of grit but which lacks the beneficial qualities of a mildly acid paste. Now, many dental scientists all over the world recommend acid tooth pastes. A non-soapy tooth paste has the further advantage of not deteriorating in hot climates. It contains nothing that will harden, making it unfit for use. One of the most modern of tooth pastes is “Pepsodent.” The mild acid it contains tends to disintegrate the mucin plaque, or film, which forms on teeth. The film is removed then, by a finely powdered constituent, effective, yet so mild in its action that the natural enamel of the teeth is unharmed. The cleanser is much softer than the enamel. Trial samples of Pepsodent are offered to all who apply to the Pepsodent Company (New Zealand) Ltd
