CROSSING FATALITY.

LORRY SMASHED TO FRAGMENTS DRIVER KILLED INSTANTLY. By Ttlegraph—Press Association. HAMILTON, April 8. A railway crossing fatality occurred on the Mam Trunk lino about a mile south of Taupiri this afternoon. As the Thames express, bound for Auckland, approached the crossing, a motor lorry driven by William Henry Corntliwaite, a single man, 22 years of age, appeared on the rails, and the express collided with the vehicle, killing its driver almost instantly, and smashing the Ford lorry to matchwood. Cornthwaite was employed by the Public Works .Department, and was engaged in conveying camping material from Hamilton to Taupiri for electric work. Deceased’s parents reside at Palmerston North. The crossing where the accident occurred is an open one. Cornthwaite was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of tho smash.
