RESCUED FROAI DROWNING,

Samuel Garrett, a fireman oil the steamer Crossbill, while stopping lrom the pier to the vessel, lost his ham nee and fell into the harbour, where lie floated face downwards until a seatnan from lI.M S. Dunedin ami another man rescued him.. He was then unconscious. He was resuscitated alter some time, and removed to the Dunedin s sick bay, and later was sent to hospital. KILLED BY TRAIN. NAPIER, April 8. Benjamin Joseph Cosgrove, aged about 60, a retired saddler, and conductor of the Waipawu Alumcipal Band, was killed by a train at Waipawa station this evening. Ten minutes after the tram went out his body was found on the line. It is assumed that Cosgrove attempted cither to board or alight from the train while it was moving, and fell between two carriages. Deceased suifered severe injuries to the head and arm. FALL RESULTS FATALLY. By Tcleiiraiih —Press Asscciation. WELLINGTON, Aprill 8. Ernest Livingston, seaman, (69,, fell in Post Office Square and died from tho effects. According to evidence at the inquest lie was under the influence of liquor at the time. NELSON, April 8. Lex Squires, son of Mr W. W. Squires, of Nelson, who was seriously injured in January last in the Wnirarapa district through the accidental discharge of a rifle, has so lal* improved in health as to be able to arrive back in Nelson in company with lus father. .
