TAINTED EGGS.
REPLY TO AFRICAN COMPLAINTS By Cable—Proas Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CAPETOWN, April 2. The Imperial Company, on March 31 issued a preliminary statement, in reply to the findings of the Egg Commission, declaring that it was not correct to state that the Company refused assistance. The Company acted on legal advice in view of claims for damages pending against it, and offered to reply to the questionaire, but this did not suit tho purpose of the Commission. The Company thereupon offered a statement concerning handling and export eggs during the season, which the Commission received, and quoted throughout UTe report, without u word showing that it was actually supplied by tho Imperial Company, and no further information was requested by the Commission. The statement completely justified the Company’s assertion that, it was not responsible for tho taTnt in the eggs, and showed that wTiile the eggs were befog, examined and'passed for export, tho Government’s egg inspectors and stab were in the Company’s cool chambers daily, and at no time suggested the presence of any taint or foreign smell.
