All official records for passenger liners was broken by the Cunarder Muretania, which maintained 29 knots an hour in responding to the S.O.S. of the British freighter Lalaham, against heavy seas. It was learned on the arrival of the Muretania on Friday. The Muretania learned an hour afterwards that three other vessels joined in the race indicated. The Shirvan was first on the scene by several hours.

Tha previous record by the Muretqnla was 27.4 knots in fair weather.
