The autumn meeting of the Australian Jockey Club opened in brilliant sunshine. ' The course was a trifle . on the dead side, owing to heavy rams early in the week. ■The attendance reached 80,000. New Zealand had a few representatives running. Double Escape showed iip-Avell in .the "First Hurdles, and was lying third passing the stand the first time, behind- Gunnedah. One-l<or-Alj took the lend entering the back and he'd that position till entering the straight, when Royal Howard, who was always handy, came up and won rathei easily. A ... The Autumn Stakes was a race really between Windbag, Pilliewmkie and Heroic.' The ■ last named jumped out from the start, but David made the pace, and'soon had > load of several lengths ahead of Windbag. The held
