FIRES.
BLAZE AT TUAKAU. PUKKKOHE, March 31. By p.ss'iviAiimj. A six-roomed house at Ttiaknu, owned by Dr It. G. Roberts, Hastings, and occupied by Dr. Alexander, W as totally destroyed by fire last night. In the absence of a water supply and fire fighting appliances nothing was saved, except the surgery, which was apart from the house, and a few personal belongings. The furniture, which was imported from England, was insured for £2500. WORKSHOP DESTROYED. By TVleuraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. March 31. A fire broke out at 10.20 to-night in a workshop of the Dominion Homo Builders, in Peterborough Street. The building was dcstrovod and the machinery damaged, while joinery work in 11 1 (' process of construction was lost. Two motor lorries and a Ford car wore removed to safety. The fire made a big blaze, and attracted manv sightseers. Two fireengines turned out, and extinguished the outbreak after an hour’s work. The estimated damage to machinery wa.s £.‘101)0. The insurances arc not available.
