INVITATION TO “OFFICE STOOL.”
To the Editor of.the “Timaru Herald.” Sir. —I notice that a Solon from the neutral seat of fiis ‘‘office, stool,” has discovered what, an unimportant, part we farmers take in growing: wheat. It is indeed very consoling to know that we really only prepare the soil, plant the sor'd, sit on the fence and watch it grow, and then merely harvest it while a whole community of willing helpers do the rest. l!ut say, did it ever occur to our broad-minded occupant of the Stool that if all these people take such a prominent part in growing wheat does it not logically follow that the man who lives at the health resort must bo helping the nurse, the tailor, the man who makes “split pins” etc. Now 1 would suggest that,‘‘Office Stool” take' an extended holiday in the country and try his hand at this- lovely occupation at which the whole world and his wife lend such help. 1 have a slight suspicion that before ho had the first pad- j dock ploughed and sown (if he sur- I so long), he would incline to the stupid idea of most farmers that lie was I doing a little more than his share of j producing the world's bread' and before j he hud the last sack on top of a two- j ton truck he wou'd he pining to be back on his office stool and leave the narrow minded farmer to "carry on as best he could. —I am etc.,
SOLID STRAW.
