BUTTER POOL.

AN AUSTRALIAN ANOMALY". Telegraph—Press Association. AA ELLINGTON. March 29. 5?omo peculiar features have develepon m the Australian butter market. Canada recently imposed a dumping duty against Commonwealth butter! owing to the fact that it was being •sold in Australia at a. rate higher'than that at which it is available in Canada, ■fills was possible owing to the operation of a levy’ on all butter sold in Australia in tho local market, and payable to exporters in order to equalise trade and prevent undue congestion of tho local market. Reports are to hand that Melbourne dealers have complained that their pooled orders aro not being supplied Irom Queensland, and that there is a danger of tho pooling system collapsing. It is a. singular fact that somewhat extensive orders for butter have been placed in Now Zealand, for shipment in April. This occurs despite the fact that suppliers of the* Australian local market arc being levied under tbc l'atterson scheme for the 'encouragement of Australian export to the relief of local markets. It is thought that Now Zealand butter is primarily intended for the Eastern tinned button trade.
