Dr. Abbott, of the United States Smitlionian Institute,' after a long investigation, including Algeria and Baluchistan, lias definitely decided upon Bersheba, South West Africa, as the site of the now Solar Observatory, from which American scientists will study the variation in the sun’s heat, with a view to improving weather forecasts. The African Observatory will cooperate with others in Chile and California.
