PERSONAL.
Mr A. K. North, Ashburton, spent yesterday in Timaru. Mr Y. Russell, Ashburton, was in Timaru ycsjbrdav. Mr P. B. Foote returned to Timaru by yesterday’s first express from the north. Messrs G. P. Graham and C. Haslam, who have been carrying out school inspections in the Fairlie district, will return lo Christchurch to-day. A cable message from London states that the Australian Press Association understands that _ Lord Somers (Governor-elect of Victoria) will most likely land in Melbourne on June 27. Mr F. W. Furkert has resigned the chairmanship of the Main Highways Board, and will leave New Zealand shortly on a nine months trip abroad. The trip is being undertaken chiefly for health reasons. Mr C. J. McKenzie will bo chairman of the Board in the absence of Mr Furkert.
