The law prohibiting short skirts came into operation to-day. The police at mid-day discovered a 20-year-old girl, the hem of whoso skirt was fifteen inches abovo the ground. The girl was tried and immediately sent to gaol for twenty-four hours. The verdict was received with loud hisses in the crowded court.
