“LEAGUE IS VERY STRONG.”
Colonel Amery’s Views. EMPIRE CO-OPERATION URGED. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, March 21. Colonel Amery, speaking at Newton Abbot, said: “To those who thought the League of Nations was an infallible body, what had happened at Geneva might seem a terrible catastrophe. But the League is a very strong institution in which, side by side with a great deal of genuine goodwill, there is naturally a strong streak of the old Adam.’’ Speaking personally, lie was of the opinion that the effectiveness and sense of responsibility of the League might be greatly increased if the nations of Central and Southern America worked out their own affaira in some League of their 'own across tho Atlantic, rather than participate in the affairs of the world. The next meeting of the League in September was of far less moment to Britain than the fact that in October the Imperial Conference is meeting. “For us out best hopes lie in close co-operation with the rest of the Empire.” “ GOING TO DO GOOD.” SIR JAMES ALLEN’S VIEWS. The “Daily Mail” states that Sir Janies Allen, interviewed, said it the League were going to do any good the nations must be prepared to consider international matters from ft wider aspect than their own particular interests.
