Mr E. C. Rawnsley returned to Waimate yesterday. Dr. Gow (Palmerston North) is at present on a visit to Timaru. Mr W. Dayman (chairman of the Timaru Harbour Board) left for Christchurch yesterday. Mr C. H. Tripp has left on a visit to England. He expects to return to Timaru in November next. Mr J. Bambridge was a passenger for Dunedin' by yesterday’s first expres. Major W. H. Foden and Mr E. Pratt left Timaru yesterday for Dunedin. Mr J. Bignell, of Greymouth, came to Timaru by yesterday’s first express. Mr G. W. Armitage (Temuka) and Mr T. Hughes (Geraldine) were in Timaru yesterday. Mr J. Leggott returned to Timaru from the West Coast yesterday. Mr A. Dickson (Christchurch) arrived in Timaru from Christchurch yesterday. Mr C. S. Young was a passenger by the second express for the south yesterday. Mr Clark McConachv, the eminent billiardist, arrived in Timaru from Christchurch yesterday, to spend a few days in his home town. Mr J. P. Kalaugher returned north from Dunedin yesterday, and stopped at Timaru between the two expresses. Cabled advice has been received from England that Mr A. J. liarrop, M.A.. an ex-member of the literary staff of the “Press,” has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Air Harrop went to England about the middle of 19”;! to carry out historical research at Cambridge. L.'r. Jlarrnp has been a member of the literary staff of the “Daily Mail,” as well as a. regular contributor of special articles to Dominion newspapers.
