DOG TRIALS.
MACKENZIE COLLIE CLUB. Tho 36th annual competitions untlei* llio auspices of tile Mackenzie Collie Dog Club were run very successfully last week, and can be numbered along with many previous popular gatherings. All .bo principal factors that go to make such trials popular wore in evidence—fine weather; tplendid sheep; and keen competition among the largo number of competitors quite a pleasing number of visitors). Kurow, Omarama, AVaimatc, and Albury clubs were well represented—and to some purpose, success having attended their capable efforts. The work generally was not of a very high standard, which was hard to account for, all tho requisites for success being present—easy ground, beautiful weather, and superb sheep. Tho judging was in tho care of Mr Adam Elliott, Glenavy, whose decisions on the whole were well received. The president (Mr C. A. Parker) was ably assisted by his committeo, and left nothing to chance. They kept things going smoothly throughout tho three days occupied in running off tho 140 odd nominations. Tho schedule prizes included the usual handsome lotof valuable trophies and specials augmenting the Club’s very liberal cash prizes. The annual ball, on the first night of tho competitions, was on a par with the former year’s popular “outing. The most successful competitors on the ground were Mr A. Aubrey (Waitaki), who secured two firsts and a fourth; Mr J. Anderson, twice second; and Mr It. Smyth, second and third. Probably the most outstanding performance was Mr It. Day’s maiden effort with his dog Fog—a splendid specimen of the true sheep dog—and as intelligent in the execution of Ins work as attractive.
