Arthur Schultze," a German lithographer, was regarded as the master craftsman in connection with the Hungarian note forgeries. Germany’s c.cverest detectives had been searching for him for months, when he calmly walked into a police station and said: “1 believe you want me.” in a statement he .said ho was asked by Prince Windiseh-Graeta in 1 September, 192(1, to go to Bucharest, where he ’should work tor the latter. Schultze went, and was employed in the State printing works. He himself took phutogrnphs of french 1000 franc notes. He believed lie was engaged in a legalpolitical action, as the Chief of Police, Dr. is’a(lossy, apparently supported what was being done. After four months Schnltze says he began to doubt the honesty of the work which was being carried on. Moreover, there did not seem to he enough money to keen the works going properly. He therefore .sought permission to return to Germany, which was refused, finally he managed to escape across the frontier. Such was (Schnltze’.s story, which Berlin communicated to Bucharest, where the belief was officially held that Schnltze was deeply involved in the plot.
