The trial has been opened of Dumini and four others, accused of the wi.ful, but unpremeditated murder of Signor Matteotti ' The greatest interest is in the defence of Dumini, who has accepted responsibility for kidnapping Signor Matteotti, and conveying him to the country. Dumini added that he saw Signor Matteotti was unwell, and stopped the motor car. Afterwards he drove 160 miles with the corpse, which he finally mutilated to prevent recognition, and buried. The Judge, cross-expmining with a view to proving tb.e defence a- frabrication, pointed out that finger prints showed that Duuiini was inside the motor car, not driving. Moreover Dumini’s deformed arm prevented his driving 160 miles • ' He added that it was absurd for Dumini to attempt to exonerate the others, because Signor Matteotti was stabbed to death. Dumini bearing marks of the struggle when arrested. Chiefi/where the triul is being held, in en fete, the populace regarding the murderers as national heroes. ■
