The weather last week made the polar flight impossible, and conditions are still bad.
During the waiting period, the motors are started daily to keep then! m perfect running condition. Tiio difficulties of starting in low temperature have been overcome, Experiments to find the right admixture of cooling water has succeeded in eliminating the risk of the water freezing. The difficulty of the oil becoming thick and heavy' has also been overcome. Captain Amundsen, hoWever, persists in waiting for milder weather for starting, as he thinks it would not be Wise to risk the ihotors freezing, although the risk has. been reduced td a minimum.’ Everything else in connection with the expedition is ready.
