Governor-General of Australia. A Melbourne cable message reports that Mr Stanley Bruce lias been officially advised that tlie King lias appointed" the Rt. Honourable Sir Lawrence Bah'd to succeed Lord Forster as Gov-ernor-General of tlie Commonwealth. The Earl of Ypfes. A cable message from London states that the Earl of Ypres is dangerously ill after ah operation for nonmaliguant tumor. At his own request, he was conveyed on a stretcher to Deal Castle. He bore the journey well. Mr P. TV. Eiby left for Christchurch by yesterday’s second express. ‘ Mr T. W. Lynch was a passenger for tlie north by yesterday’s second express The Hon. Mark Cohen M.C., passed through Timaru on his way.to Dunedin yesterday. Mr D. C. Turnbull was a passenger for Christchurch by the second express yesterday. -Mr R. D. Halstead returned to Timaru from ‘Wellington by tho first express yesterday. The Rev. G. D. Falconer (Pleasant Point), wiio spent tho week end m Oamaru, returned homo yesterday. The Rev. E. A. Osmcrs, Curate ’at St, Mary’s, Timaru, lias jilst gained the diploma in social science, aw aided by Canterbury College. Mr J. Trotttil- (Fan-lie), and Mr J. Maeauloy (Alburv) left yesterday to attend a meeting of the ’Wheat Board to-day iii Christchurch. Air Murdoch McLeod, of Napier, has been appointed senior inspector ot the Canterbury Education .District. Mr. McLeod was formerly headmaster at the Teiiilika D-strict High School.
The Rev. J. R. Hervey, Vicar of the To mu kit si ml Winciie.stcr parish,' who lias been in ill health for shine tinio, lias resigned nis charge, and lias accepted a position as assistant to Ami-de,-icon Huggitt at Mehvitle, Christchurch. The taxi proprittors of; Timaru met on two occasions' hist week to farewell members who were relinquishing the business. Tho hist presentation took place in the Empire Hotel, when Mr H. Muclimore was the reb.pient of a handsome rhg. Mr P. Downey, who made the presentation, rclerred in eulogistic terms to Mr Muehiiiore, who su-itabl.v replied. On Friday last, Mr. W. Middle miss, was met'in the Club Hotel, and was presented with a watch and a thermos flask. Mr P- Downey in making the presentation spoke very highly of Mr Middlcmiss Sts a taxi driver Mr Middlcmiss suitably replied.
