HUNTING.

MEET AT AROWHENUA. A shower the night before gave promise of a good scenting day for the Arowhenua, meet on Saturday, but ‘the morning- was cold and scent did not lie well until late in the afternoon, when a run took place that turned a poor day into a firstclass one—one that will be remembered by those who wore lucky enough to see it right through. The first field tried was ‘ one of Messrs Gaffney Brea., and immediately a hare was view-ed away w r hicli gave a short, rather dodgy run round several of his fields before being lost. Two more runs took place' before lunch, but scent would not lie, and as hares were rather numerous hounds were unable to show very good sport. After lunch a couple more runs took place, but on each occasion the hare made good his escape. Later in the afternoon the sun came out, the air became warmer, and scent lay well. Found in Mr Burns’s, a hare made down a by-road for half a mile and then turned left-handed, heading towards the Levels station. She completed a big right-handed circle, and turned towards Kerrytown. Skirting this to the right she made for the Point-Arowhenua Road, but at the back of Mr Coghlan’s homestead puss turned back towards Kerrytown. Crossing the Kerrytown Road she traversed a couple of fields and then turned right-handed across the Point Road, and made for the riverbed. It looked as if she must escape, but hounds were pressing her closely, and she turned back towards her own country. Over several fields, once more she landed on the Point Road, but she had come to the end of her tether, and hounds closed on her and scored a well-earn-ed kill after a splendid hunt of nearly six miles.
