Nelson Firth, of Kelburn, Wellington, though lie lias readied the advanced age of over 80, will leave by the Athenic on a holiday visit to England. % Air Firth arrived at Auckland 70 years ago by tho sailer Glengo wrie, after a voyage of six months. The following members of the Legislative Council were passengers from Wellington by tho first express south on Saturday:—The Hon. R. Scott (Kyoburn), Hon. D. T. Fleming (Balclutha), Hon. H. T. Hawke (Invercargill), and the Hon. G. AI. Thomson (Dunedin). A cable message from London announces that Sir George Lloyd, ALP. for Eastbourne, has accepted the offer of the High Commissionership of Egypt, in succession to Lord Allenby. Sir George Lloyd, who was formerly Governor of Bombtfy, is a student of Eastern affairs. He participated in tho Great War in Egypt, Gallipoli, Aiesopotamia, and Hedjay.

It is understood that the Rev. Father J. F. O’Connor, parish priest at Geraldine, has received notice of transfer to another church. During the time he lias been in charge of the Geraldine parish Father O’Connor has endeared himself to the members of his communion, and news of his intending departure will be received with keenregret. The following members of the House of Representatives were passengers on the south express on Saturday, returning from the funeral of the late Prime /Minister I The Hon. C. E. Statham (Speaker of the House of Representatives), Alessrs J. Ale. Dickson (Chalmers), J. C. Thomson (Wallace), P. A. Do La Perrelle (Awanta), H. W. Urn (Southern Alaori), T. D. Burnett (Temuka), and T. K. Sidey (Dunedin).
