A large congregation, including numerous New Zealanders, avus present a 1 the memorial service in honour of the late Right Hon. W. F. Massey in Westminster Abbey to-day. Mr E. id, Crubb (of the High Commissioner's Staff) represented tiir James Alifen (High Commissioner ioi Noav Zealand,), and the New; Zealanders or ex-iNeiv Zealanders present included Lady Allen and Miss Allen, the Euri of Liverpool and Earl JeJlicoe fex-Governor-Ueneral), Lady G wendo* line Jeihcoe, Six; Frederick Chapman, Sir Donald McGavin, the Hon. \V. P. Reeves and Messrs A. F. Roberts (N.Z. Commissioner to the British Empire Exhibition), and Campbell Stuart. With them Avas General Sir lan Hamilton.
The service, which Avas fully choral, was conducted by the Rev. Canon Carnegie (Sub-Dean of the Abbey) and the Rev. Canon Detrendole. It began with the singing of the hymn “f or All the Saints Who from Their Labours Rest,” after ivhicli tho 23rd Psalm Avas ‘ sung, and tho leeson (Revelations xxi, 1-7) Avas read. The anthem “I Heard a Voice from Heaven” (Goss) Avas I'endered by tho choir, and the service concluded Avith the singing of Kipling’s “Recessional” and the piaying of the Dead March, in “Saul.”
His Majesty the King was represented by Viscount Hampden, and their Royal Highnesses the Prince ot Wales and the Duke of Connaught were also represented.
The members of the Government present were—The Right Hon. Stanley BaldAvin (Prime Minister), the Right Hon. Austen Chamberlain (Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs), Earl Balfour (Lord Pi'ivy Seal), Lord Cecil of ChatsAvood (Chancellor of the Duchy), Colonel the Right Hon. L. M. S. Amery (Seci’etary of State for the Colonies), the Right Hon. Neviiit. Chamberlain (Secretary for Health), the Right Hon.. W. C. Biudgeman (First Lord of the Admiralty)', Sir Philip’ Cunliffe-Lister (President of the Board of Trade), and the Hon. W. G. Ormsby-Gore (Under-Secretary for the Colonies), The congregation included many distinguished Englishmen, Right Hon. C. C. Larkin (High Commissioner for the Dominion of Canada), the AgentsGeneral for the Australian States and Canadian Provinces, and i-epresenta-tives of the High Commissioner for Australia (Sir Joseph Cook), and the Indian Empire.
