FEARED BREAKDOWN.
.. DEATH OF HON. FRANCIS .. LASCELLES. Qy Cable —Press Association —Copyright Reuter’s Telegram*. Received May 12, 10.30 p.m. . LONDON, May 11. 31. t the inquest on l the Hon. Francis J. Lascelles, a verdict was returned of suicide while temporarily insane. The evidence showed that deceased suffered mentally for years. He probably feared a total breakdown, and committed suicide to avoid it.
(The Hon. Francis John Lascelles committed suicide at his home, Leehouse, Hampshire. A gun was fixed between the leaves of an extended table, pointing to a chair on which Lascelles sat. A rod was attached to the trigger. The Lascelles’ maid, on entering the smoking room early in the morning, found Lascelles shot through the head, and a doublebarelled gun at his side. He dined alone the previous night. It is stated he had been lately somewhat of a recluse, being fond of books, and rarely seen outside the house. Mrs Lascelles and her daughter, Nora, aged nineteen, were in London at the time of the tragedy. They returned immediately. The Hon. Francis John Lascelles was a son of the fourth Earl of Harewood.)
