GUNBOAT FIRES ON HOUSEBOAT.

A message from SlTarighai states that a houseboat, with two Britishers, Lawson Hall and Walker and their wives and children aboard, returning to the harbour from a pleasure trip just before nightfall, when nearing a Chinese gunboat, suddenly without warning the latter fired a fusilade at the houseboat, with rifle fire, Lawson Hall was wounded in the thigh.
The British Consul-General entered a strong protest. He was informed that the shooting was the outcome oi the crew of the gunboat becoming panic-stricken owing to a warning of an impending attack by an opposing faction.

The Commander of the gunboat called on the Consul-General, and apologised for shooting, and announced China’s readiness to pay the hospital expenses of Mr Lawson Hall, and repairs to the houseboat.
