FARMER’S DEATH.

INQUEST AT LEVELS VALLEY

An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Henry Baker, farmer, Levels Vailev, who was found dead in a paddock on Sunday, was conducted yesterday by the District Coroner (Mr E. D. Mosley). Sarah Baker, wife of the deceased, said that at 3.45 p.m. on Sunday deceased left the house to round up cattle. Later, when he did not appear, she sent her son, Henry to look for him. The boy found liis father lying on the ground in one of the paddocks, and immediately went for Mr Healey, a neighbour, who, on his way over, stopped a passing car. Tho three men in the car went to tho paddock with Mr Healey, and found Mr Baker lying on the ground de,ad. ■ John Healev, farmer, said ho went to Mr Baker’s farm at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and was told by Mrs Baker that her husband had been apparently knocked down by a bull. " Ho stopped a passing car. and, in company with the occupants, wont to tho paddock where, Mr Baker was lying. Life appeared to he extinct. Henry 'William Baker, aged 14, gave evidence to finding his father lying in the paddock. Constable Perniskie, Pleasant Point, said he was summoned to Mr Baker’s farm, Levels Valley, at 4.15 p.ra. on Sunday, and found Mr Baker dead. Dr. S. Milne said he had conducted a post mortem examination on deceased. There were no indications as to his having been gored. Death was due to heart failure, caused by over exertion.
