SUDDEN DEATH.
A bushman, named John Drew, who has been working for Mr Macdonald, of the Miranda, in felling and preparing mining timbers, died suddenly at the Hazelbank Hotel, Brown-street, last evening. Deceased had crossed the firth about noon I on Sunday, in company with some mates, and had been drinking heavily since at various public-houses. About C o'clock last evening he lay down on a sofa in the parlour of the Hazelbank Hotel, after partaking of some rum and milk, and slept heavily for about three hours, when the Servant girl went to awaken him. He had not aken anything lo eat since his breakfast, and although not appearing very much intoxicated, he was no doubt suffering from the effects of his drinking habits. Whoa awoke by the girl he appeared quite conscious, but fell back almost immediately afterwards and expired. Medical aid was at once sought, and Dr. Lethbridge waß shortly afterwards in attendance, bat only to pronounce life extinct, An inq icst will bo held over the remains this morning.
