We have received the following letter on this subject from Tarapipipi. The letter is, so far as we can ascertain, in Tarapipipi's own handwriting. Hotereni Oketopa 2,1874, Kite kai ta ote napepa. I korero ano ahau kia Te Paki raua ko Wirope Taipari mo taua tima kia purua. -Naku tuturu taua puru, e hara i te, pakeha. Kaua e whakapae te ngakau. • Tabapipipi.

[tbanslation.] To tho Editor of the Newspaper. Shortlnncl; Oct. 2,1874 0 friend, I have seen what has appeared in your-newspaper. The statemeufcof Major George in wrong. It is correct that my word wag, that< tho steamer should be stopped. I have sent a letter to Mr Morrin to the effect that what I had said to his agent was correct. My band did not touf.h the pen [in writing the former letter], but I instructed Hone, [Rangaunu] that it should, be .written and published.. I also spoke .to Mr Puckey and -to Wirope Taipari in reference to the stopping of the steamer. That stoppage was my own independent action, and not that of any European.
